A Visit to the Edrose Art Gallery with Edward Lamptey

KGEDC President & Executive Director & CEO Nana Akua Otubea Baah and Nteasee House Art Gallery Curator Malachi "Mac" Elliott visit renowned Ghanaian artist Edward Lamptey at his Edrose Art Gallery to discuss an upcoming exhibition at Nteasee House.

In January 2026, Nana Akua Otubea Baah (Titilayo Akua I. Smith, KGEDC President & Executive Director & CEO) and Malachi "Mac" Elliott, the Nteasee House Art Gallery Partner and Curator, visited the Edrose Art Gallery to meet with renowned Ghanaian artist Edward Lamptey.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss Lamptey's upcoming exhibition at the Nteasee House Art Gallery in East Legon, Accra. Surrounded by Lamptey's vibrant and culturally rich paintings — from sweeping market scenes and village landscapes to bold abstract compositions rooted in Adinkra symbolism — the three discussed the vision for bringing his work to Nteasee House's growing cultural space.

Edward Lamptey & the Edrose Art Gallery

Edward Lamptey is one of Ghana's most celebrated visual artists, known for his masterful ability to capture the energy, color, and spirit of West African life. His works range from vivid figurative paintings depicting everyday Ghanaian scenes — bustling market women, children at play, fishermen at work — to deeply symbolic abstract pieces that draw on Adinkra iconography and traditional textile patterns.

The Edrose Art Gallery, Lamptey's personal studio and exhibition space, is a treasure trove of Ghanaian artistry. Walls are lined floor to ceiling with paintings that tell the story of a nation — its traditions, its people, and its creative spirit. For Nana Akua Otubea Baah and Malachi Elliott, visiting the gallery was an immersive experience that reinforced the importance of art as a vehicle for cultural preservation and storytelling.

Building a Cultural Bridge at Nteasee House

The Nteasee House Art Gallery, curated by Malachi "Mac" Elliott, features rotating exhibitions from Ghanaian and diaspora artists. As Ghana's first Afrofuturistic boutique bed & breakfast, Nteasee House is uniquely positioned to serve as a cultural bridge — connecting international guests with the rich artistic traditions of Ghana.

Bringing Edward Lamptey's work to Nteasee House represents a significant step in that mission. His paintings — deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture yet universally resonant — offer guests an authentic window into the soul of the country. The exhibition would allow visitors to experience the depth and diversity of Ghanaian art in an intimate, immersive setting.

Art as a Pillar of Development

For KGEDC, the partnership with artists like Edward Lamptey is more than an aesthetic choice — it is a core part of the organization's Arts, Culture & Entertainment focus area. By creating platforms for Ghanaian artists to showcase and sell their work, KGEDC supports the creative economy while preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

The Nteasee House Art Gallery creates economic opportunities for artists, exposes an international audience to authentic African art, and reinforces the B&B's identity as a cultural destination in Accra. Every piece on the walls tells a story — and every story strengthens the bridge between Africa and the diaspora.

"Meeting Edward Lamptey at his gallery was inspiring. His work captures the essence of Ghana — the vibrancy, the tradition, the beauty. We are honored to bring his art to Nteasee House, where our guests from around the world can experience it firsthand."
